It is estimated that Canadian women discard approximately one billion disposable pads per year. This not only creates environmental waste, but costs the average Canadian woman about $200 a year.

Perhaps in future these types of materials will be designed to take minimal resources, and will be recycled through bio-digestion systems that reduce the material to fertilizers, while generating methane for fuel and cooking. More on bio-digesters here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodigester
