Yard Waste

Yard Waste can be diverted from the regional landfill in a number of ways. A local company offers a yard waste pickup service for a monthly fee. It provides you with a 95 gallon container in which you can place all your yard waste, food waste and wood waste. It will be picked up every two weeks and hauled to a composting facility. Call 736-3233 for information. You can take your yard waste to the transfer station in Centralia, 1411 S. Tower Ave., Monday-Saturday 7:30-5:30 for a reduced fee of $60 per ton, or $5 for 160 pounds or less. You can haul it yourself to Silver Springs Organics outside of Tenino. Visit their website at www.silverspringsorganics.com or call them at 360-446-7645. Johnson Contracting, Inc., 380 Forest Napavine Road East, Chehalis, accepts wood waste, such as new construction, brush and stumps, for reduced prices. Call 266-8141 for information. If you live within the city limits of Chehalis, you can purchase a permit through the city. You will need to provide proof of residency for the permit. The permit will allow you to dispose of your yard waste at the city's organic disposal site. Call 748-0271 for more information. You can also compost your yard waste in your own backyard. The Lewis County Master Recycler Composters host periodic classes to teach people how to compost. Call 740-1216 for more information.
