Higher quality energy efficient appliances are likely to save you money over the lifetime of the product. They will last for many years, use less energy, and will require less maintenance than lower quality models.

Peterborough has many appliance repair businesses (check the Yellow Pages). Several locations also buy or accept trade-ins of used major appliances that are in working order or need minor repairs. Be sure to call ahead for details.

Please take stoves, washers, dryers, and dishwashers that are not worth repairing to a scrap metal dealer.

Ontario law requires coolant be removed from fridges, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers by a certified person. Coolant contains CFCs, which are extremely harmful to the ozone layer if they escape into the atmosphere.

Many municipal landfills and transfer stations in the County accept appliances free or a small charge. Residents should call their local municipal offices for more information.
