Motor Oil

Used motor oil is hazardous. It contains toxic impurities such as lead and cadmium. Never dispose of motor oil down the drain or in storm sewers. One litre of motor oil can contaminate over 10,000 litres of water.

Used motor oil can be recycled into a product that is as good as new oil. It is cleaned, filtered and given new additives. Look for recycled oil at your service station.

When disposing of old oil, put it in a sealed container, label it and take it to the Peterborough City/County Municipal Hazardous or Special Waste Depot at 400 Pido Road or the seasonal MHSW sites free of charge. For locations and hours of operation call County of Peterborough Environmental Services at 705-775-2737 or visit www.county.peterborough.on.ca.
